Blog Journal #2

I think teachers and students feel as if they should use technology in the classroom because of how popular and familiar technology appears to be for basically everyone nowadays. I think teachers particularly feel like if they are granted with the resources to include technology in their classrooms, they should take advantage of it. It can be a very quick and effective way of teaching and engaging students.

I have a lot of respect for the ISTE standards and think they work well to ensure that learning and technology is correlated in a positive and effective way in education. I think I am very familiar and experienced in the standard that is Digital Citizen. Since the very beginning of my use of technology i've been consistent with being safe and respectful on the internet. I know how to avoid illegal websites and know that once something is on the internet, it will always be on the internet.
I think as of now the Knowledge Constructor is a little out of my skill set because I am not familiar with a huge variety of resources yet. In order to really construct knowledge and build something meaningful you need to combine a lot of resources and a lot of digital tools and there's still some things I will have to learn in that area.

I think the term "digital native" is entirely true and agree that is exists. A digital native is someone, (basically like me) who was born in a time where technology was arising, was very popular, and they've been familiar with technology from a very young age. I see a lot of differences between digital natives and digital immigrants. Digital natives seem to be quicker at almost all things technology, as well as using a new piece of technology. I think digital natives are really quick to remember times when they didn't have to rely so much on technology and oftentimes get frustrated. That's what I see from people like my grandparents and even my parents. If I were to become a teacher, I think it'd be inevitable that half of the time my students would be coming up having to help me with a piece of technology I was confused about.

  1. This is a wonderful post! I definitely agree that technology is essential to incorporate into a classroom setting. I admire your insight about how digital natives do exist. I would like to know more specific examples about how your parents/grandparents use technology compared to how you do.

  2. I agree that become a teacher or educator in this generation, the students will already know about technology and all be considered "digital native". This is very important to realize and I feel that it is also important to input that even though technology is very popualar. Depending on the region, some students may have less accessibility than the others.
